Design and Performance Evaluation of a Multi-Point Extrusion Walnut Cracking Device

The practical problems of existing methods walnut cracking under compression loading, including incomplete walnut-shell crushing, broken kernels, and so on, are widespread in processing constraints that hinder mechanized processing. Therefore, attempts have been made to design optimize a multi-point extrusion device. For this, walnuts were fed manually into unit through the hopper. tangential force grading roller graded dropped them gap between rotating plate, causing crack. developed machine was tested parameters optimized using central composite (CCD). objective functions involving angle (CA: 0.17, 0.27, 0.52, 0.76, 0.86°) speed (RS: 63, 75, 105, 135, 147 r/min) calculated. shell rate (SCR), whole kernel (WKR), specific energy consumption (Es) regression models established quadratic orthogonal combination test MATLAB software. results showed most significant factors for RS linear terms SCR WKR, whereas CA factor term Es. interaction two had effect on three indicators. optimal parameter determined be 0.47° 108 r/min RS. On this basis, adaptability device better with greater than 1.6 mm thickness less 1.2 mm. significance devices.
